Vow Tips

6 tips to perfect Vows;

We love personal vows, but we understand that the thought of writing them can be daunting. Luckily, there are numerous resources to guide you, from online articles to inspiring films and social media stories. However, the most impactful vows come straight from your heart, reflecting your true feelings. Here are six tips to help you craft your personal vows:

  1. Be Yourself: Use your own words and expressions. Let your personality shine through; authenticity resonates deeply.

  2. Be Realistic: Remember that these vows are genuine promises. They should reflect your commitment and the reality of your relationship.

  3. Getting Started: Consider framing your promises with a simple structure. You might say something kind about your partner and then make your promises. A straightforward formula could look like: “With you by my side, thank you for [something meaningful], I promise to [specific promise]. On this day, you have been my [descriptive term].”

  4. Collaborate: Seek feedback or brainstorm ideas with someone you trust, but avoid discussing it with your partner to preserve the surprise. Embrace each other's unique styles; your differences are part of what draws you together. Aim for about 300 words or less for a concise and heartfelt vow.

  5. Chill: Don’t aim for perfection in wording or grammar—it should sound like you. Find a quiet space to write for 5-10 minutes initially, then step away and return later to refine your thoughts. There's no rush; allow your feelings to evolve.

  6. Practice: Read through your vows several times before the day arrives. On the wedding day, take your time, read slowly, and remember to look up at your partner as you speak. These are significant words meant for both of you.

Embrace the process, and let your heart guide you.

As you do think about your own love for your partner, the feelings you have for each other and the promises, goals and dreams you have for your future together. You have got this, whatever you write is right for you and each other.

Remember your vows will be a beautiful testament to your journey together.

Here are some Vow examples

Vow 1

In the 7 years we’ve been together, we have built a beautiful life together. I’m so proud to be with you, the man that I know loves and cherishes me.
Thank you for being in my corner and putting me first; thank you for stepping up and carrying more weight when I’ve needed you;
thank you for saying yes to any crazy ideas I come up with; and thank you for telling me the movie reference when I ask “where’s that from?” William Smith. You’re my hero. (F.B)

On my honour, I promise to do my best to do my duty... no wait. That’s the Scout vows.

I promise to help you work towards your goals and celebrate when you achieve something – big or small.
I promise to give more when you need me, and to push you when you need that.
I promise to be in your corner and stick up for what you want, and to listen to you as time passes and what you want changes. As a married couple, “the question isn’t ‘what are we going to do’, but ‘what aren’t we going to do’?” (F.B) William.
You are my best friend, my confidant, my protector.

Vow 2

I love you with my whole heart, with a passion that can’t be expressed just in words, but I’m going to try.
I see these vows not as a promise but as a privilege. I don’t have to honour and cherish you, in sickness and in health, I get to. I get to have you be the person I spend the rest of my life with, I get to be there for you and support you. I get to laugh with you, cry with you and build a life with you.
Your love pushes me to grow, believe in myself and encourage me to be better every day.
In your arms, and by your side, I know I can do anything. I know together, we can do anything.
You’re my missing jigsaw piece, you make my puzzle whole.
Forever and always, my favourite girl.

Vow 3

X, my best friend, and my soul mate
With you I’ve witnessed a different type of love that I didn’t even know existed.

You make me feel more secure, seen and loved than I’ve ever felt before. I never feel like I need to change or be anyone other than myself when I am with you.

I love that you are patient, kind, generous and most of all, I love that I found the only man that can tame me enough to become their wife.

I know that in this lifetime, with you, I have all that I can ever ask for.
With each day that I spend with you, laugh with you, talk with you, and just enjoy life with you, I know that whatever comes our way we can overcome it together.
